And while the weather is a certainly one reason people move to and enjoy living in Southern California, Angelenos also experience a “winter”. Yes, we know it is a different kind of “winter” when compared with other areas of the United States. But, it’s a winter nonetheless, and we may even experience temperatures in the low 50’s combined with our rainy season! Bring out the layers, boots, and scarves!

Ice Skate in the City
Lace up your ice skates and head to one of the outdoor ice skating rinks in Los Angeles! There’s nothing quite like ice skating under the stars in the (usually) fabulous LA weather to get you into the winter spirit!
Head to Pershing Square’s outdoor Holiday Ice Rink in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles until January 20th, 2020. Enjoy a fun spin on the ice in the midst of skyscrapers, city lights, and stars! Keep an eye out for their “Let It Go” Tuesdays (perfect for all the FROZEN lovers), DJ Spotlight Thursdays, and Learn to Curl special events.
Check out ICE at Santa Monica, located in Downtown Santa Monica, just minutes from the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Pier. This 8,000 square-foot ice skating rink is ideal for those who don’t want to leave the beach but still want a touch of winter! Ice season runs through January 20, 2020, so be sure to take advantage of private of group skating lessons, party cabanas with catering options, and free musical performances on Sundays! Score Cheap Eats at Winter DineLA
Los Angeles is teeming with great restaurant options, and we love good food at great prices. Twice a year, LA rolls out DineLA Restaurant Week, a 15 day stretch showcasing LA’s finest eateries with special lunch and/or dinner menus guaranteeing a 20% minimum value. No passes or tickets required, but be sure to make a reservation at a participating restaurant (or two) and enjoy LA’s culinary scene. Mark your calendar for Friday, January 17th through Friday, January 31st for some unbelievable eats!
Try Your Hand at Curling
Calling all Olympians, Olympians in Training, and Olympian wannabees! Head to Pershing Square’s Holiday Ice Rink on January 12th for a one hour lesson in curling. The Hollywood Curling Club hosts this event, starting at 8 am, where you’ll learn the basics of this Olympic sport. Make sure to register, as registration is required. Bring your best curling face and hit the ice!
Grab a cup of Hot Chocolate
We love hot chocolate, and we love sampling hot chocolates from around the globe. Mexican Hot Chocolate never disappoints, and Los Angeles has some great spots to grab a cup! Swing by La Monarca, one of our go-to bakery chains throughout Los Angeles. With locations in Los Angeles, Hollywood, Huntington Park, Highland Park, Commerce, Pasadena, and Santa Monica, you’re sure to find that cup you’re craving close by.
Hike LA
Yes, January in Los Angeles usually means rain. But once the rain stops and the clouds clear, the LA skies are crystal clear and the views are fabulous. Winter in LA is the perfect time of year to get out and enjoy a hike at one of the City’s many trails. You’ll dodge the summertime heat and crowds and you’ll be overjoyed by the city on a clear day.
